TRIP UP THE NORTH FORK OF THE SHOSHONE

Both of these photos taken on the North Fork today. What a beautiful day it was. Nancy Ferrington invited me to go take photos of the Big Horn Sheep. They were right down on the road starting just the other side of Wapiti. The further west the more snow. We went as far as Pahaska Teepee and Sleeping Giant Ski area. Nancy packed cheese and crackers and apples. We had a feast. Thanks Nancy for a great day.

Feels like Winter

"Mountain Winter" Small pen and ink I did few years back. But past two days brings winter to mind. Beartooth pass closed yesterday and roads in YNP were closed part of the day because of snow. Not ready for that yet. Now the sun has come out and very pretty out.

The Cody Art Show Upstairs in the Historic Irma Hotel starts this coming thursday, Sept 22. Hope everyone will come visit the show. 11 of the Historic rooms filled with great art from all over the west. We will be open for a preview on Wednesday evening Sept 21. Come and see it.
It is RENDEZVOUS ROYALE Week in Cody, lots of shows, fashion, western furniture, see it all. We will be doing our 2nd annual Pony Express paint out during Boot Skooten Boogie on Thursday Evening, a street fair downtown Cody.

It has been professionally scanned but don't have the image as yet and I wanted it on here as this is the big opening of the Heart Mountain Interpretive Center.

Yesterday was the Annual Garden Tour put on by the Master Gardeners and the Cody Country Art League. There were 6 gardens and each had a couple of artists painting and a master gardener to answer questions. Was a really nice day. Berna Ost and I were in the same garden. We each did a small bird house that were hanging on the fence around the garden. Mine is done in colored pencil on mat board. It was framed and auctioned at the sale after the tour. This was my 5th year and what beautiful gardens we get to go to. Always look forward to going each year.

I have had 2 of the Law prints framed. These are handmade barnwood frames from BJ's Framing in Powell, WY. They do a fantastic job and are so reasonealbe. The prints unframed are still $25.00 at this time but if anyone wants a framed ones, add $50.00 Total $75.00. This includes mats and glass that cuts the ultra ray light.

Win award at the Rocky Mountain Regional Show

This small 5x7 pen and ink has won 4th place overall at the Rocky Mountain regional Show in Red Lodge. The judge was Denny Neville and I was told he gave it a perfect score. Wow, I am impressed. GREAT Especially when this was a substitute. After I sent my entry in I discovered I had entersd one already in another show. So Red Lodge told me to send in a different one and here it is. One of those great mistakes.

Blue Buffalo Artists at the Cody Chamber of Commerce Banquet

Some of our Blue Buffalo Artists were invited to demonstrate at the 111th Annuel Cody Country Chamber of Commerce Banquet. Thanks to Kim and Mike at the Irma Hotel who invited us. We had a grand time and got to eat, what delicous food. The theme this year for the banquet was "Paint Your Wagon" 30 years of art in Cody. Mainly celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Buffalo Bill Art Show. We felt honored to be able to do this. We tried to do a variety of mediums. Berna did oils, Melody watercolors, Nancy sculpting and I did scratchboard.

I brought my art work home yesterday from the month in Red Lodge. It really was a nice show, they did a great job. Just sorry it has ended. Now on to Great Falls on the 15th for the Western Heritage show. Always a fun time. This year is thier 30th anniversary and there will be lots of events going on. Should be great.

Couple of photos from my week end in Red Lodge. Very nice reception on friday night. Not many came but still nice. Some of my friends from Cody came. Berna and Leonard on Friday night and Melody and Terry on Saturday. Made me feel good. Ate so much chocolate. Table just filled with it. k
Stayed in a nice motel on the north edge of Red Lodge. CAlled the Alpine Motel. Inexpensive and very nice rooms. Slept like a log. Every going to Red Lodge give them a call.

Took an afternoon jaunt up the North Fork taking photos of the Big Horn Sheep. Alot were down on the road. Saw alot of deer and one lonely buffalo. But what a pretty day. Enjoyed the trip very much.

WINTER IN THE HIGH COUNTRY

I am putting this painting on today as it is diffinantly winter today. It is snowing and to get much colder, a breeze from the north. BRRRRRR.
This painting done in pen and ink pointillism is titled "Winter In the High Country" and is from a photo of the North Fork of the Shoshone on the way to Yellowstone National Park. A friend took the photo and let me use it. I have always been pretty proud of this painting.

This is a pencil drawing of two actors in a movie shot here in Cody. I am seriously thinking of starting a Blog on just drawing, Pencil, Colored Pencil, Pen and Ink, Charcoal and Scratchboard. Love working with a pencil, I grew up with a pencil in my hand doodling on whatever I could find. I have talked to lots of artists who are the same. There is some gorgeous pencil pictures out there. The January 2011 issue of Art of the West has a section on pencil. Don't tell me this is not Fine Art. Anyone have a comment.

Montana-Wyoming Past & Present Art Show

Blue Buffalo Artists Display at MOOSE CREEK

Mr Santa Bear greets folks coming into our display at the Moose Creek Art and Furniture in Cody. He is a busy bear, decorating the tree.
There are several of us with art for sale. Berna Ost, Nancy Ferrington, Melody Christensen, Bob Thompkins and Barbara Butler from Billings and Kay Burian from North Dakota plus Me. Since we are next door to Dennies Guns we get lots of hunters and family coming through. We have been going about once a week to demonstrate and visit. There is so much to see there, besides our art. Public Lands, Personal Visions Art Show

This painting, "Basin Oasis" is my entry to this show. It was done on location in a pasture west of Deaver, WY. A little Oasis where the irragation water tumbles down out of the rocks.
I attended the opening of the Public Lands Show last Wed at NorthWest College in Powell. It was a great show, alot of variety of the Big Horn Basin.
This show, "A picture is worth a thousand words" is to inspire area residents to participate in a government process. Specifically to contribute or react to the resource management plan that will guide all BLM dicisions for the next 20 years in the Big HOrn Basin. Nineteen artists are representeds in the show. They all are either from or working in the Big Horn Basin. The show will hang until November 19.

Rock Creek at Red Lodge, MT

Last Monday I took new paintings to the Depot Gallery in Red Lodge. Such beautiful weather Mom went with me. We packed a sandwich and ate along Rock Creek at Red Lodge. We always enjoy stopping there.

Fall on the North Fork

It was an absolute gorgeous fall day today so Mom and I took a drive up the North Fork of the Shoshone. We didn't quite make it to the east gate of Yellowstone but the sun went under clouds so not good for photographing fall trees. So we turned around. Such a beautiful drive any time of year. We will be going back.

Some photos I took at our first Pony Express Paint Out. This was done at the Boot Skoot'n Boogie in front of the Irma Hotel. There were 10 of us that worked on the painting. My photo of the painting is terrible. We want to get it professionally photographed. We were all pretty pleased with it for doing it in a hurry. It was sold by Silent Auction and I will post the high bidder as soon as I can notify him.

Oil Painting of the Big Horn Basin

Thats right, an oil painting. Something rare for me but this was done on location at the Ost Ranch a few years back. I entered it in a show about the Big Horn Basin and it was accepted and will hang for awhile at Northwest College in Powell, WY. It will be taken there Oct 5 for the show. It is titled Basen Oasis and is 16x20 on masonite.

This bronze was done by Christy Daniels of Huson, MT. Christy is one of our new members this year and is in room #15 upstairs at the Historic Irma Hotel.
This bronze really means something to me as it is based on her two uncles who I knew for years from Almont and Morton County, ND.

Mary Michael is one of our original Cody Art Show members. She has been with us all 3 years. She is a sculptor and lives in Bridger, MT. She is getting very well known around the country. A monument of Sacagawea and Pomp stands in Livingston, MT and was done by Mary. Visit Marys room #29 during the show. Sept 23-25 upstairs in the Irma Hotel. 3rd Annual Cody Art Show at the Irma Hotel

The 3rd Annual Cody Art Show is coming up fast now. It will be Sept. 23-25 upstairs in the Historic Irma Hotel. We have activities planned this year and one is called the Pony Express Paint Out. We will start this large canvas on Thursday in the Boot Skooten Boogie Street Fair. We will paint on it two at a time, pushing the other out of the way and doing our thing. We hope to have an actual painting when we get done. Plus we have 19 artists this year in the 15 historic rooms. Besides Wyoming, our artists come from Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, California, Washington and several from Montana. Make your plans to be in Cody for Rendezvous Royale Week.

Great to see Pete and Dawn Olson, Kaity and Jaydon Schaaf coming through from Almont. On thier way to Yellowstone. We had a wonderful meal at the Wyoming Rib and Chop House and great visit. They were on thier way to Yellowstone the next morning. Come back, you Guys.

Garden Tour on the South Fork of the Shoshone

the Cody Country Art League and the Master Gardeners are doing the annual Garden Tour but this year there are 5 Gardens and all on the South Fork. Not only beautiful Gardens but the scenery is breath taking. This is a view of the garden I will be at. This doesn't show the garden but sure does show the scenery. It is called Bear Creek Ranch and is located on lower south fork road.

Trip to North Dakota

I just returned from a short trip to ND. A stop in Medora and a couple of days in Almont. Mel Christensen rode along with me. We had a very nice time. We visited a friends farm and took photos of the chickens, geese and ducks. This little hen fell in love either with Mels toes or her bright red sandles.

"Storm over the Big Horn Mountains" has been accepted in the 2010 Masters in Miniature show at the CM Russell Museum in Great Falls, Montana. The show concludes Sept 11, 2010 with an auction.
The painting is done in Pen and Ink and from photos I took coming down out of the mountains towards the Big Horn Canyon. Huge storm clouds were building and were beautiful

Jake Clarks MULE DAYS, Ralston, WY

I will be packing off to MULE DAYS starting June 16 thru the 20th. A friend, Nancy Ferrington, is setting up a booth and I will join her. Ralston is a very small town between Cody and Powell, WY. It is taken over by mules and mule lovers for that week. A rodeo, sale and parade, All kinds of activities. Hopefully the weather will warm up. Better come to Ralston and if that doesn't turn you on come for The annual Powwow at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center in Cody. All kinds of things going on.e

Two Pastel Paintings in Brown Gallery, Idaho

These two paintings "Missouri River Back Water" and "5 Springs" have been accepted into the Pastel Soc. of the Northern Rockies show at the Brown Gallery in Boise, Idaho. The Missouri River is just below Pioneer Park in Bismarck, ND and 5 Springs is in the Big Horn Mountains in Wyoming. Both done in pastel on location.

ON DISPLAY AT THE BISTRO

I will be displaying some of my small pen and ink animals on the Rice Paper at the BISTRO for the month of JUNE. The Bistro is a wonderful cafe in the Park County Libray. A wonderful place to display my art. I will have several of the small paintings both framed and unframed, plus a few other pieces.
Come and visit. the Bistro is a great place, good food, wonderful view of Heart Mountain and since it is in the library, quiet.

Absaroka is a WINNER

The movie Absaroka has won the Wyoming Short Film Festival. HOORAY. It is beautifully done, our scenery is second to none here in Park County. You won't find me but there is one shot that shows some feet and I think the middle ones might be mine. Ah Well.
We all went to the Premier last thursday night. Really enjoyed it.

Wyoming Art Assc. Awards

Melodie Christensen won BEST of SHOW at the Convention. She deserves it, a great piece. Called Eye to Eye and won blue in the THEME catagory of "A Picture Paints a Thousand Words" and is in watercolor. One happy lady.
My little teapot won 2nd in the miniature division and another of mine won 3rd. Also my painting of Yellowstone Falls will be going to Washington DC to one of Wyomings congressional members offices.
All in all we had a great time.
